
Rosario Gulino
After graduating in Biology at the University of Catania in 1999, he obtained his PhD in 2005, carrying out a research project on the role of neurotrophins in synaptic plasticity and the recovery of motor function in experimental models of spinal cord injury. From 2005 to 2006, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology and Pharmacology of Neurodegenerative Diseases, directed by Elena Cattaneo, where he conducted research on brain repair through neural stem cell transplantation. From 2006 to 2011, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Catania, working on several projects involving animal models of spinal cord injury and motor neuron degeneration. From 2012 to 2015, he worked as a researcher at IOM Ricerca S.r.l. (Viagrande, Catania), focusing on stem cells and regenerative medicine. From 2015 to 2021, he served as an Assistant Professor of Physiology at the University of Catania, and since January 2022 he has been an Associate Professor of Physiology at the Department of Biomedical and Biotechnological Sciences (BIOMETEC). His current research focuses primarily on animal models of motor neuron diseases and neural plasticity. He teaches Physiology in the degree programmes in "Scienze Biologiche", "Biologia Sperimentale e Applicata", and "Fisioterapia" at the University of Catania.
